While a steep roof is ideal for taking advantage of gravity to get water and snow off your roof, it does present a unique challenge to your roofer. You’ll need to have yours surveyed by a professional to get an ideal of how much work the roof requires, says SFGate. Once you’ve determined the extent of the damage and work needed, hiring a roofing contractor or company comes next. Here are some questions to help you hire one that can handle roofing a steep pitch:

  • Do you have experience working on steep roofs? What kind?
  • Do you have the necessary tools and equipment to get the job done in the most efficient way possible?
  • Do you own those tools and equipment? Care to walk me through the steps?
  • When, where and how will you set up the equipment?
  • Do you know what safety measures to follow to prevent any accidents from happening while you work on a steep roof?
  • Do you have a list of references from previous clients?
  • Are you bonded, licensed and insured? Can you send me a statement or proof from your insurance provider to reassure me of that fact?
  • What do you do to keep the surrounding area around the property clear of any debris after you clear the old roof? What kind of tools do you see to tidy up the property?
  • Will you take care of the debris disposal?
  • Are you certified for this kind of roofing work?
  • Do you offer warranties? What kind?

These are some helpful questions to ask during the interview rounds. They’ll come in handy when you start eliminating and narrowing down your options. With this list of questions, you won’t run the risk of working with a contractor or company that has little to zero experience roofing a steep pitch.
