Whether it’s a business trip or a well-deserved holiday, renting a car in Costa Rica can make a difference. With a rental, you can get around easily enough. No more waiting in queues or trying to negotiate with local drivers to take you and the rest of your group to a far-off destination and risk getting scammed or charged with unreasonable fees.

Don’t know the first thing about making this happen? Read on:

Call up your insurance agent

First off, ask your agent if your policy includes coverage when you drive a rental, suggests the Huffington Post. Don’t forget to find out what the coverage is for letting other drivers get behind the wheel. Expect higher fees with that one, though.

Rent the right one

Renting a car in Costa Rica can mean a ton of fun, especially if you imagine yourself driving with the top down and wind in your hair. However, if you don’t know how to drive the make and model of that car, the chances of you getting into an accident, especially on unfamiliar roads, increases exponentially. Best to just go with the car you know you can handle without any worries.

Find your match

Go for a ride that offers you the best in leg room and seat height. You really wouldn’t want to have to hunt down a pillow just to boost your height and get a good better road visibility. Or have to squeeze your legs into a cramped driver’s seat for hours on end. So check the interiors to make sure they match you. If the unit seems too roomy or if it looks like the only way anybody with your height is going to fit in there is if they were headless, then that’s a sure sign you need to look elsewhere.
